Chief Executive Officer

The Wyoming Business Council (WBC) seeks a dynamic, creative and energetic leader as its next CEO to lead the state of Wyoming’s economic development agency.

The Wyoming Business Council creates new opportunities for current and future generations of Wyomingites by adding value to Wyoming’s core industries and leveraging them to activate new economic sectors. We serve businesses, entrepreneurs and startups, industry, communities and current and future generations of Wyomingites.

As CEO for the Wyoming Business Council, you’ll get to:

Lead the organization to realize diverse, broad and lasting economic growth for Wyoming to prosper by creating and nurturing a unique organizational culture inspired to reach its greatest potential. With the WBC Board of Directors, a team of independent leaders, partner organizations and elected officials, the CEO will establish long-range goals, plans and strategies that support statewide economic development efforts.

The CEO will actively engage with business leaders, stakeholders, elected officials, partner organizations and the general public to ensure a continuous evolution of WBC programs and services that address the needs of businesses and communities around the state.

A successful CEO will have a combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in business plus ten years’ experience leading diverse teams as a senior leader. Must have successful experience driving an organization from strategy implementation to execution along with established business experience in the for- profit sector. Additional experience leading an economic development organization and/or a public agency is helpful.

Outside of formal education and experience, it is important for the CEO to be a proven leader that inspires and motivates others to perform at their peak. The internal and external environment for WBC is highly collaborative so being a strong builder of partnerships, successful teams and trust will be critical to success.

This position reports to a 15-member Board of Directors appointed and co-chaired by the Governor and confirmed by the Wyoming Senate.

Candidates should live in Cheyenne, Wyoming, or be willing to relocate. Extensive travel and varied hours will be required. Salary: $125,000 - $145,000

Selection Process:

This is a very important role for the current and future economic environment in Wyoming. The process will have several steps with separate final interviews with the Governor of Wyoming and WBC’s 15-member Board of Directors in a format that is open to the public.

Semi-finalists will be required to authorize a credit and criminal background investigation.

·       Nov. 25: Finalists notified

Broadband Manager

Currently we are looking for a Broadband Manager to join us on this journey. As the Broadband Manager for the Wyoming Business Council, you’ll get to:

Coordinate statewide efforts to promote, increase and improve broadband service across the state. You will get to work closely with communities, industry representatives and policy makers to gather and evaluate common goals, develop policy recommendations, implement plans and act as a liaison from the WBC.  You will feel great accomplishment as you work with both public and private interest to establish and nurture common goals and actionable results.

A successful Broadband Manager will be highly skilled at bringing multiple viewpoints together to accomplish a single vision, encouraging discussion and establishing win-win solutions. Established leadership experience in telecommunications, specifically the broadband industry will be important for success in addition to knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations and policies governing telecommunications, the broadband industry and public finance. Outside of formal experience, it is important for the Broadband Manager to be a solid self-starter that can build and promote trust among many different groups such as peers, community and business professionals and elected officials. As a Broadband Manager, each day is different so being adaptable and open is necessary along with sold decision making and creative thinking skills.

Business Finance Coordinator

Currently we are looking for a Business Finance Coordinator to join us on this journey. As the Business Finance Coordinator for the Wyoming Business Council, you’ll get to:

Serve as the first point of contact for staff and clients providing guidance and services for business financing needs. Develop client relationships, process and service loans, perform financial due diligence and evaluate and recommend business financing tools.  Work closely with the Economic Development Finance Manager, WBC team, and partners to identify financial needs for businesses in all stages and ensure programs remain compliant with banking and investment regulations. Ensure statewide awareness among businesses, communities and financial institutions of WBC financing programs, collaborate with development teams and assist businesses with financial assistance.

A successful Business Finance Coordinator will have experience in all phases of commercial lending, banking operations and risk analysis. Education and experience equivalent to at least three years in banking, bond experience, credit analysis and business plan review. Training and experience in evaluation and analysis of complex business plans, strategic planning & resource allocation, balance sheets and detailed financial projections will be important for success. Outside of formal experience, it is important for the Business Finance Coordinator to be detail-orientated, organized, creative and be proactive.  Work well both independently and as a member of a team. As a Business Finance Coordinator, strong communication and relationship management skills, as well as critical evaluation and decision-making skills will play a huge role.

Americorps VISTA Volunteer

The Wyoming Business Council is seeking an AmeriCorps VISTA Volunteer to work with the Community Development team to help Wyoming towns grow and remain sustainable in the 21st century.

In this exciting and fulfilling position, you will:

  • help create fundraising programs;
  • strengthen teams of community leaders;
  • develop a communications and marketing plan that emphasizes the critical role that housing plays on the local and state economies;
  • build organizational capacity of the Statewide Housing Organization to effectively serve as the leader for housing in Wyoming.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a promising community developer to gain experience and have a meaningful impact on rural Wyoming residents.

This opportunity is available exclusively to volunteers in the AmeriCorps VISTA program of the Corporation for National and Community Service, a federal agency that engages more than 5 million Americans in service.

The VISTA Volunteer will work closely with a variety of partners to develop effective approaches to economic and community development in rural communities.
